" It is ironic that today is two days  before thanksgiving. Today Bownet has joined hands to help the homeless and the less fortunate here in the usa.  We have aggreed in principle to be the official portable net of STREET SOCCER USA. said Jack Lucas president and co founder of Bownet.

Lawrance Cann has done great things for the inner cities and will continue to impact many lives. We feel very fortunate to be involved with an organization like Street Soccer USA.

Our first event with Street Soccer USA will be at the NCAA Division 1 Soccer finals in December. Our nets will be featured at halftime, in a street soccer demonstration. said Lucas

After an extensive search of producers to do a soccer video/commercial, Jack Lucas cofounder of Bownet announces that they have inked a deal with heavy weight soccer director Dan Metcalfe. After talking with many people who shoot great videos and commercials we felt Dan's extensive background in soccer and soccer scenes in movies made him the logical choice for Bownet"

We are proud to have Dan on board and we are excited to see what he can bring to table. The story boards have already changed for the better, I can't wait for shooting day on Novermber 15, 2009.

It's not going to be just a commercial but a memory.

Stay tuned

The Bownet:   Solves Consumer Protection Agency Problem of Falling Goals

Sept 3, 2009
Thousand Oaks, Ca

According to the Consumer Protection Agency, there have been 35 known deaths and hundreds of injuries related to falling soccer goals.  The reason is simple, they are not anchored properly.  Often, you can see coaches instructing their kids to move soccer goals around to create small sided fields for soccer training.

The following is from the Consumer Protection Agency website:

According to the 1994 National Soccer Participation Survey (Soccer Industry Council of America), over 16 million persons in the United States play soccer at least once a year. Seventy-four percent (over 12 million) of these persons are under the age of 18. Soccer ranks fourth in participation for those under 18, following basketball, volleyball, and softball and well ahead of baseball, which has an annual participation of 9.7 million.

There are approximately 225,000 to 500,000 soccer goals in the United States. Many of these soccer goals are unsafe because they are unstable and are either unanchored or not properly anchored or counter-balanced. These movable soccer goals pose an unnecessary risk of tipover to children who climb on goals (or nets) or hang from the crossbar.

The CPSC knows of four deaths in 1990 alone and at least 21 deaths during the past 16 years (1979-1994) associated with movable soccer goals. In addition, an estimated 120 injuries involving falling goals were treated each year in U.S. hospital emergency rooms during the period 1989 through 1993. Many of the serious incidents occurred when the soccer goals tipped over onto the victim. Almost all of the goals involved in these tipovers appeared to be home-made by high school shop classes, custodial members, or local welders, not professionally manufactured. These home-made goals are often very heavy and unstable.

The majority of movable soccer goals are constructed of metal, typically weighing 150-500 pounds. The serious injuries and deaths are a result of blunt force trauma to the head, neck, chest, and limbs of the victims. In most cases this occurred when the goal tipped or was accidentially tipped onto the victim. In one case an 8-year-old child was fatally injured when the movable soccer goal he was climbing tipped over and struck him on the head. In another case, a 20-year-old male died from a massive head trauma when he pulled a goal down on himself while attempting to do chin-ups. In a third case, while attempting to tighten a net to its goal post, the victims father lifted the back base of the goal causing it to tip over striking his 3-year-old child on the head, causing a fatal injury.

High winds can also cause movable soccer goals to fall over. For example, a 9-year-old was fatally injured when a goal was tipped over by a gust of wind. In another incident, a 19-year-old goalie suffered stress fractures to both legs when the soccer goal was blown on top of her.

Bownet allows players to Play Anywhere, Play NOW!

Welcome to TopDrawerSoccer.com 101.  If you’ve taken an economics class, you are well acquainted with the theory of supply and demand – when supply is down and demand is up, price goes up. We’ve got a new one for you to remember:  When supply is down and demand is up, Jack Lucas creates awesome new things for soccer players.

Confused?  Let me explain.  What happens when you bring together a state where open land is scarce and a sport that thrives on free terrain?  You get a team of soccer players with nowhere to practice and coaches scratching their heads wondering what they should do.  How about if you combine harsh winters with a club team that wants to stay in competitive shape?  You get frostbitten players and the end of a season.

club soccer training aid.
The Bownet Sand Bag Accessory
Supply: Space to practice and play soccer. Demand: Soccer players, coaches, team admins and soccer moms.   Result:  Lucas’s inspired idea, the Bownet.

The original Bownet was designed for 3v3 soccer.  Since then, they have designed nets of various sizes: a 3x5 for the younger AYSO player, 4x8 (the official 3v3 soccer net), 5x10, 6x10, 7x14 and a 7x18 coming out in a couple weeks.

The design of the Bownet is different from what anyone else has ever seen.  Set up time is virtually nil, they have no guide wires and come with a free carrying bag.  Other portable nets are blown up, full of air without a complete soccer net shape.  The Bownet is durable, portable, lightweight and sturdy.  A video was taken of the Bownet in action during the season of the California Santa Ana winds and it withheld.

The secret is the bungee system that Bownet has patented with fiber glass rod nets supporting the regular soccer net – when a ball hits the net, the regular net gives, the fiber glass rods give and the bungee system sets the net back up.  The impact of the ball isn’t entirely accepted by the net.

The Bownet has been used in tournaments but has found its niche in training purposes.  They have found success everywhere in the U.S. except perhaps the Midwest where field space is not lacking.  The Bownet is providing nets that people can actually practice on.  This is especially good for Southern Californian soccer players where sometimes 18 teams train on one soccer field.  With the Bownet, it’s a no-brainer, tons of players can develop their skills where before they had no avenue to do so.

Find out more about the bownet at: www.thebownet.com.  Make sure and check out their tutorials for a full illustration of Bownet’s capabilities.
